Challenges:
Preventable newborn deaths and illnesses are unacceptable statistics. In 2020, over 2.4 million infants lost their lives within the first month, accounting for 47 of under-5 child deaths globally. The majority of these avoidable deaths occur in low-income countries LMICs.
In LMIC settings, access to comprehensive and innovative newborn care products is limited, contributing significantly to preventable maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality.
Response:
UNICEF collaborates with partners to enhance the avlability of essential technologies for newborn health across all levels of healthcare systems. We m to drive demand for existing and upcoming products while identifying and addressing gaps in accessible, affordable, and user-frily solutions suitable for low-resource environments.
We are introducing UNICEF's DREAMS Devices for Rapid Early Assessment, Management Support Suite for Newborn Health:
PILOT for newborn health procurement
BALLERINA for jaundice management
HERO for thermal regulation
FIRE FIGHTER for hypoglycemia management
ASTRONAUT for point-of-care ultrasound
