The Inter-agency Taskforce for Child and Maternal Health Well-being CAMH has completed its Strategy and Action Plan and published its report on June 14, 2024. This strategic blueprint outlines three core initiatives and nine recommations designed to improve health outcomes for children and their families, thereby maximizing the development potential of our next generation in Singapore.
Context:
Singapore has made significant strides in child and maternal health but faces new challenges such as an increasing average age at first pregnancy which rses risks of complications. Additionally, childhood obesity poses a precursor to future obesity issues. These developments necessitate continuous adaptation and enhanced societal engagement towards optimizing the health of our young population for healthier future generations.
Initiatives:
The CAMH Taskforce was established in January 2021 by Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, with representation from over 20 agencies across healthcare, social services, and education sectors. This taskforce is part of a larger government initiative med at addressing individual health needs beyond traditional medical boundaries.
Outcomes:
Evidence-Based Resources: Support couples in preparing for parenthood through enhanced health screenings and psycho-emotional support.
Healthy Lifestyle Promotion: Uplift families and empower parents to foster healthier, happier children by incorporating fun activities into lifestyle changes.
Cross-Domn Integration: Streamline service deliveryacross healthcare, social services, and education sectors.

Evidence-Based Support for Couples: Offer comprehensive resources and support for couples planning parenthood through enhanced health screenings that include mental wellness assessments and educational workshops on parenting skills.
Healthy Lifestyle Promotion: Implement a range of initiatives to encourage healthier choices across all age groups, from school children to adults, by integrating fun activities with the promotion of balanced diets, regular exercise, and healthy habits.
Cross-Domn Integration Services: Enhance convenience for families through integrated service deliverythat allow access to multiple services in one visit, such as healthcare checks alongside social welfare support.

Over time, Singapore has built a robust framework nurturing health and well-being in children and their families across homes, schools, and communities.
