The inter-agency Child and Maternal Health Well-being CAMH Taskforce has recently completed its comprehensive strategy and action plan formulation, which was published on June 14, 2024. This CAMH Strategy and Action Plan has identified three core areas and nine recommations that have been translated into 48 initiatives med at enhancing the health outcomes for children and their families and maximizing the developmental potential of Singapore's youth population.
Singapore currently boasts commable achievements in child and maternal health care, but it faces new challenges such as rising age of first-time mothers which can pose pregnancy complications and childhood obesity that is a precursor to adult obesity. To tackle these emerging issues, the CAMH Taskforce has been formed since January 2021 with Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health Mr Masagos Zulkifli at its helm. The Taskforce comprises representatives from over twenty agencies across health, social services, and education sectors to address individual health needs beyond traditional medical care.
This initiative stems from a comprehensive review of evidence-based research, collaboration with experts, family consultation, ways to enhance support for children and their families. Below is a summary of the key thrusts and recommations:
Thrust 1: Enhanced Resources Support for Parents Preparing for Parenthood
Recommations:
Provide mothers and babies integrated healthcare services in one visit through a mother-child dyad service delivery model.
Introduce Family Nexus hubs as one-stop centers for families with young children or couples planning for marriage and parenthood.
Thrust 2: Strengthening Services for Child, Adolescent Health Well-being
Recommations:
Deliver services to the family unit to streamline access and convenience.
Enhance collaboration between health, education, and social sectors through partnerships.
Implement a community-based care strategy with scalability options for children, adolescents, and their families.
Thrust 3: Cross-Domn Integration of Services Support
Recommations:
Simplify service delivery by integrating healthcare into schools or community centers.
Offer flexible options for service bundling to assist vulnerable groups in navigating the system.
Through this strategic plan, Singapore build upon its robust framework that promotes health and well-being for children within their homes, schools, and communities. The CAMH Taskforce leverages expert knowledge and insights from key stakeholders to pinpoint areas needing improvement and enhance support for parents and children.
We hope that this report will emphasize the importance of mntning maternal and child health and the ongoing efforts to implement the Action Plan collectively, empowering future generations to thrive both physically and mentally.
