Universal access to essential newborn care is a fundamental entitlement for every infant across the globe. This care encompasses immediate attention at birth, as well as comprehensive support throughout the newborn period in both health facilities and at home.
Immediate Care at Birth: Implementing immediate practices like delayed cord clamping, thorough drying, ensuring proper respiration, skin-to-skin contact, and prompt initiation of breastfeeding.
Thermal Management: Guaranteeing warmth through various means to prevent heat loss.
Resuscitation: Being ready for interventions when necessary, ensuring the newborn's vital functions are properly mntned at birth if required medical assistance.
Breastfeeding Support: Facilitating successful lactation by offering appropriate guidance and resources.
Nurturing Care: Providing a nurturing environment that supports emotional well-being as well as physical health.
Infection Prevention: Ensuring safe conditions to prevent infections from affecting the newborn's health.
Health Assessment: Regularly monitoring for potential issues, identifying any signs of distress or ill-health promptly, and providing necessary care.
Danger Signs Recognition: Knowing when a baby is in danger and responding swiftly with appropriate action.
Safe Referral: Ensuring timely and secure referrals to higher levels of care when needed.
