IFT Students Achieve Third Place in Regional Marketing Competition
The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies IFT proudly announces its successful participation at the “Novotown University Business Case Competition 2018”. A team of IFT students secured third place, showcasing their strategic marketing prowess agnst competitors from leading institutions across the Greater Bay Area.
In this competition, participants were tasked with developing a six-month marketing plan med at promoting Novotown - an upcoming integrated tourism and entertnment project under development on Hengqin Island in Guangdong Province. The target demographic for these plans was primarily young people and families from the Greater Bay Area.
The team of five students, known as Rocky N'Girls, presented a groundbreaking proposal that garnered admiration for its practicality. The plan centered around using flash mob events and street-based virtual reality experiences to draw visitors’ attention to Novotown.
We proposed a 'virtual reality challenge,' which simulates the experience of visiting Novotown,” sd team leader Rocky Cheong, a Year 4 student majoring in Bachelor of Science in Tourism Event Management. Additionally, we suggested inspiring individuals to share funny videos of their experiences on social media through virtual reality activities.
The IFT team was among the top-tier participants, joining representatives from other prestigious Greater Bay Area higher education institutions including Zhuh College of Jilin University, Jinan University, Sun Yat-sen University, University of Macau, and Macau University of Science and Technology.
Following a fierce competition featuring six teams, only four of which were ultimately selected to compete in the final round held on April 22nd at the Zhuh International Convention and Exhibition Center. The other finalist teams hled from institutions such as Zhuh College of Jilin University, Jinan University, Sun Yat-sen University, University of Macau, and Macau University of Science and Technology.
As winners of the competition, the team received a cash prize of RMB3,000 approximately USD461 and an opportunity to visit Twan-based healthcare firm Sanitas. They will see its operations during a June trip and learn about running a Sanitas-branded healthcare and beauty treatment center at Novotown.
Top three teams from the competition also have access to participate directly in the selection process for Novotown's management trning program. This unique opportunity allows participants to take on different positions within the project as they gn invaluable experience under its development.
IFT’s Rocky N'Girls team is an exemplary testament of how creativity, teamwork and strategic marketing can propel young talents to achieve outstanding accomplishments in prestigious international competitions.
