Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting MIECHV Program

The Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting MIECHV Program is designed to help expecting mothers and parents of young children improve health and overall well-being for their families. This program connects trned home visitors with families who then develop strong relationships based on trust. Regular meetings are held between the home visitor and the family to address their needs.

The primary goal of the MIECHV Program is to enhance maternal and child health, get kids ready for school success, improve family financial stability, and link them with community resources like WIC, Medicd, employment and education opportunities, housing support, parenting classes, and smoking cessation programs. The program also works diligently to prevent issues such as:

How does the Home Visiting Program assist families?

Home visitors provide guidance on various topics including:

Supporting healthy pregnancy habits

Offering advice on breastfeeding, safe sleeping arrangements for infants, avoiding child accidents, proper nutrition

Encouraging parents to engage positively with their children through reading, playing, prsing good behavior

Promoting early by encouraging baby talking and teaching skills at a young age

Helping families plan for the future, continue education, find employment and childcare options

Connecting families to additional services within the community

The MIECHV Program is facilitated by HRSA Health Resources Services Administration in collaboration with ACF Administration for Children and Families. Funds are distributed through grants to states, jurisdictions, tribes and territories. Programs chosen must be backed by evidence showing effectiveness.

To ensure program success and quality, we adhere to the Home Visiting Evidence of Effectiveness HomVEE review process conducted by ACF which validates home visitormeeting eligibility criteria based on family needs.

The MIECHV Program offers a variety of 24 evidence-basedthat states can select based on community requirements.

Performance and improvement are closely monitored through reports submitted by the program's beneficiaries. These reports assess various areas including maternal health, child development, family financial stability, and community resource utilization.
