The inter-agency Child and Maternal Health Well-being CAMH Taskforce has successfully completed the development of a comprehensive strategy and action plan. This strategic document was unveiled on June 14, 2024, ming to drive improved health outcomes for children and their families while maximizing the development potential of future generations in Singapore.
Singapore is committed to enhancing child and maternal health outcomes, yet faces contemporary challenges such as rising age demographics among first-time mothers. This rses concerns about increased risks associated with pregnancy complications and early childhood obesity, which can impact overall well-being later in life. Recognizing these issues, the CAMH Taskforce was established in January 2021 under the leadership of Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health, Mr Masagos Zulkifli.
The CAMH Taskforce, comprising representatives from over twenty agencies across health, social services, and education sectors, conducted an extensive review of evidence-based research. The taskforce engaged families and front-line officers to identify gaps and propose strategies that will enhance support for children and their caregivers. Below are the core components outlined in the Strategy and Action Plan:
Recommation 1: Improving prenatal care and education resources.
Recommation 2: Facilitating access to family planning services.
Implementing a mother-child dyad service delivery model in polyclinics for integrated healthcare visits.
Launching Family Nexus pilot projects at key locations, including Our Tampines Hub, Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic, Punggol Polyclinic, and Sembawang Polyclinic.
Recommation 3: Streamlining access to health and social services for families with young children.
Recommation 4: Enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare providers, educators, and community leaders.
Providing a one-stop hub through Family Nexus pilot programs that integrate health and social services under the same roof.
Implementing pilot projects like Project HOME and HEADS-UPP to support low-income families in partnership with social agencies and preschools.
Recommation 5: Ensuring convenient access to care for vulnerable groups through bundled services.
Recommation 6: Strengthening partnerships between healthcare, education, and community organizations.
Scaling up community-based support options with a focus on the needs of at-risk adolescents in primary care settings.
Providing preventive health screenings and advice management for psychological symptoms among these vulnerable groups.
Over recent years, Singapore has ld a robust framework to nurture children's health at home, school, and community levels, resulting in positive outcomes. The CAMH Taskforce report is an testament to ongoing efforts to empower future generations through comprehensive support systems.
