The Child and Maternal Health Well-being CAMH Taskforce, comprising inter-agency collaboration from February 2021 under the leadership of Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health Mr. Masagos Zulkifli, has successfully completed its Strategy and Action Plan Report on June 14, 2024. This comprehensive report outlines three strategic pillars and nine recommations med at enhancing health outcomes for children and their families, thereby maximizing the development potential of Singapore's next generation. The plan includes 48 initiatives already implemented or scheduled to be progressively executed over the subsequent two years.
While Singapore has achieved commable outcomes in child and maternal health, it faces emerging challenges such as the increasing age of first-time mothers, which increases risks associated with pregnancy complications. Additionally, childhood obesity is a precursor to potential future obesity issues. In response, there's a need for continuous adaptation and intensification of whole-of-society efforts to optimize health outcomes for Singaporeans.
The CAMH Taskforce was convened in January 2021 with the m of developing robust strategies for supporting children from birth to age 18 years, along with their families. The collaborative effort spans multiple sectors including health, social services, and education, ensuring a comprehensive approach.
Pillar 1: Enhancing Maternal and Child Health
This pillar focuses on strengthening healthcare services for pregnant women and children to ensure optimal health outcomes.
Pillar 2: Promoting Healthy Lifestyle Choices
The second pillar ms at fostering healthy habits, dietary choices, physical activities, and mental wellbeing among children and families through community engagement and education programs.
Pillar 3: Integrating Services Across Sectors
This pillar emphasizes the integration of healthcare services with social welfare and educational support syste create seamless access for families seeking assistance.
Initiative 1: Development of a mother-child dyad service model in primary care clinics.
Initiative 2: Launch of Family Nexus hubs across multiple locations offering integrated health, education, and social services.
Initiative 3: Implementation of multi-agency collaborations through pilots like Project HOME and HEADS-UPP to provide targeted support for vulnerable groups.
This strategic plan serves as a catalyst for empowering future generations by ensuring robust healthcare systems, promoting healthy lifestyles, and fostering inclusive community services.
